Frequently Asked Questions
Does the U7 PRO require a UniFi controller?
Yes. The U7 PRO is a UniFi access point and must be adopted and managed by the UniFi Network application (for example a UniFi OS console or a self-hosted controller) to configure SSIDs, VLANs and wireless policies. It is not a standalone home router.
Is one U7 PRO enough for a typical Hong Kong flat?
Coverage depends on wall materials, AP placement and transmit power settings. Brick and concrete walls common in Hong Kong attenuate signal, so plan AP locations and quantity against the actual floor plan, then tune power using UniFi wireless experience data rather than relying on headline coverage figures.
Do I need WiFi 7 devices to benefit from the U7 PRO?
No. WiFi 7 features require compatible clients, while older devices connect using the standards they support. The U7 PRO can serve both, and real throughput and latency depend on client capability and local interference.
How is the U7 PRO powered?
The U7 PRO is PoE-powered and requires a compatible PoE switch or injector. Check your existing PoE standard and port power budget before ordering to avoid insufficient power.
