APC UPS RBC Batteries Battery Compliance
APC Schneider Electric is committed to providing products that fully comply with all applicable regulations, international protocols and customer standards. This includes providing replacement battery boxes (RBCs) for APC UPS units and battery packs.
APC UPS RBC Battery Safe Use
It is important to know when a battery pack has reached the end of its useful life. APC power protection equipment uses sealed lead-acid batteries with a service life of approximately 5 years. We recommend replacing your battery at the end of its life.
APC Sealed RBC lead-acid batteries used in APC products by Schneider Electric are housed in sealed, leak-free battery boxes. During normal use and handling, the internal components of the RBC battery are not accessible. However, improper use of a replacement battery box (RBC), such as overcharging or overheating, can cause battery electrolyte to leak.
Get the most out of your battery case before end of life:
Schedule battery replacement before the battery reaches end of life. We recommend replacing the battery when it reaches 3 to 4 years of use.
When the UPS gives the Replace Battery (UPS RBC replacement battery) prompt, the battery should be replaced regardless of its lifespan.
If the APC UPS is no longer in use, the batteries should be removed and recycled
If the APC UPS is out of service for more than 12 months, the batteries should be replaced.
When the UPS normal load is less than 10% of the full load, the battery should be replaced every 5 years regardless of whether it prompts Replace Battery (UPS RBC replacement battery). The Replace Battery (UPS RBC replacement battery) indicator function is not accurate enough at this level and may not predict battery depletion.
To optimize the life of your UPS RBC lead-acid battery, review APC's operating and storage recommendations
Always package and ship APC UPS RBC battery assets in accordance with our safe packaging and shipping instructions to avoid damage and release of hazardous chemicals.
